Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium (SHICS)
Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium is an under-construction cricket stadium situated in Sector-I of multi-billion-dollar Purbachal New Town of Dhaka in the surroundings of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladesh cricket board and National Sports Council jointly venture into this stadium.
The stadium will have a five-storied pavilion, 3-tier stands with capacity of 50,000, and the option to add at least 25,000 additional seats. The development of the stadium budget estimated at 1100-crores tk bd ($130 million) cricket stadium in Asia making it the most expensive. The stadium is located on about 38 acres (15 ha) of land east of the Turag River on the Purbachal Highway Expressway. 1100 crore (US 120 million) stadium is expected to be completed by December 2022, although groundbreaking is scheduled for 2019.
Upon completion in 2022, the stadium will become the third largest cricket stadium in terms of capacity, and the most expensive cricket stadium in Asia. According to the 2017-2020 Activities Report, BCB has allocated a fund of TK BD 1.48 crore for setting up temporary playing facilities throughout the year to facilitate domestic competitions.
Purbachal Expressway-Madani Ave Link Roads
The government plans to construct two roads to connect Madani Avenue in Baridhara with the Purbachal Expressway next to the Bashundhara Residential Area in order to ease the traffic pressure in the capital's northern parts.
These roads will establish connectivity from Purbachal to Gulshan 2 and Rampura Road via Beraid and Natun Bazar, bypassing Kuril Bishwa Road, according to a development project proposal seen by The Business Standard.
One of the proposed roads, stretching 3.3km, will be constructed from Purbachal New Town to Madani Avenue via Yusufganj, while the other, about 5.23km in length, will go through Poshi, Kearia and Jolshiri housing projects.
The Local Government Division has proposed the project at a cost of Tk272 crore for the 8.5km roads, including four bridges and two culverts. The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) aims to complete the work by 2025.
The Bangladesh Special Economic Zone
The government has acquired 500 acres of land for the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ), also known as the Japanese economic zone in Narayanganj’s Araihazar.
The government plans to allot a total of 1000 acres of land for the economic zone in two phases, sources said, adding that Sumitomo Corporation of Japan and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) is jointly developing the project.
Japan’s first special economic zone in Bangladesh. At least 40 companies including Sumitomo, Toyota Motor Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have already shown interest to invest here. Singer has already started setting up its industry on a plot.
The EZ accommodate various industries including automobile assembly, manufacturing motorcycles, electronic products, processing agro food, light engineering, garments, pharmaceuticals, etc.
The Bangabandhu Iconic Tri-Tower
Construction of the iconic Bangabandhu Tri-Tower at Purbachal on the outskirts of capital Dhaka got underway with piling works for the mega project, reports a press release of the developer. Three iconic buildings have been jointly named Bangabandhu Tri-Tower which was awarded to a joint venture of Sikder Group and Kazima Corporation Japan by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkhaya (Rajuk). Various survey reports including soil test, vehicle management of the project have already been submitted to Rajuk. The draft master plan and design of the project was also submitted to Rajuk.
Of the three towers, one 52-storey building will be built in memory of the Language Movement of 1952, one 71-storey building in memory of the great Liberation War, and the country's largest 111-storey building with a 96-storey museum will be constructed as the legacy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Rajuk recently won an international award for the design of a smart and aesthetic iconic tower.
